Verónica Milagres da Silva is the daughter of a goan-born António Milagres da Silva, and great-granddaughter of the mando composer Paulo Milagres da Silva.

She started her musical studies in 1988 with piano lessons.

 

In 1991, she shifted to singing classes and in the following year she joined the National Conservatory of Music. She completed the course under Manuela de Sá, and later studied under Claire Vangelisti and João Lourenço. She enrolled herself in Singing at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa.

 

Simultaneously with her academic work, Veronica took part in the Group of traditional Goan music and dances of Casa de Goa, Lisbon, the present day Ekvat, during her teenage years. She worked with Jeronimo da Silva, the composer of a mass in Konkanni , having performed with him together with her father and sister.

 

In 1995, she completed the first of three intensive Choir Conducting courses. In that same year, Verónica started working as a conductor of children and youth choirs, until 2005.

 

Worked together with pianist Maria João Pires in the initial stages of the Children’s Choir within the Belgais programme.

She took part in several recordings, especially music for children in which she participated as a singer and a vocal coach.

 

She also takes an interest in the musical theatre area with the Sons em Cena project.

 

She is a member of the Gulbenkian Choir since 1998.

 

She holds a degree in primary education, with a major in musical education.
